What is Chromostereopsis?

Chromostereopsis is an optical illusion where certain color combinations appear at different depths. This occurs because the eye's lens focuses different wavelengths at slightly different distances. The effect is strongest with equiluminant colors (same perceived brightness) at opposite ends of the spectrum — warm colors (reds, oranges) appear to advance while cool colors (blues, violets) recede.
